Spaghetti Cooking Contest

venue rental Westchester

January 4th is a special day throughout the United States because it’s an important holiday: National Spaghetti Day!  Since everyone loves spaghetti, it’s the perfect excuse to get together with your friends and family and indulge in this meal.  Another great idea for this holiday is to have a spaghetti cooking contest.  At our holiday party facility in Westchester, the guests that want to participate in this contest can bring their best recipe and give samples to the other guests.  At the end of the party, everyone will vote on the best spaghetti dish.  Here is a recipe that you can use for the competition.  (Related topics: venue rental Westchester, event spaces Westchester, special events venue Westchester)

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup extra virgin oil
  • 1 ½ lbs lean ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 (28 oz) cans crushed Roma tomatoes
  • ¼ cup basil, chopped
  • ½ tsp oregano, sage, salt, pepper, thyme, red pepper (if desired)
  • ½ – 1 cup of chicken broth (optional)
  • Fresh Parmesan or Romano cheese

Directions:

  • Heat 1 tbsp olive oil over medium high heat and then add the ground beef. After the beef is browned and cooked through, remove the ground beef from the pot and put to the side for later.  Leave 1 tbsp of fat in the pot.
  • In the same pot, sautee the onion and garlic until golden. Then add the remaining olive oil, 2 cans crushed tomatoes, browned beef, and spices.  Turn the pot to low heat and cook uncovered for 5-8 hours.
  • If you want your sauce thinner, you can add broth to it at around 4 hours. You can also cover the pot with a lid once it reaches the thickness that you want, which will reduce condensation and stop it from getting thicker.
  • Serve over noodles and top with grated cheese.

This recipe is for 8 full-size portions, so if you need more servings, you can adjust the ingredients accordingly.  Keep in mind that since this is a competition, people will only be sampling each spaghetti, not having full serving sizes.
