Party Centerpieces – Get Creative

Centerpieces are important aspects of party décor.  They bring tables to life and set the mood for the gathering.  However, before you go too big, too bold, and too expensive with your centerpieces, be sure that you are keeping these tips in mind.

Beware of Too Much Height  You should be very cognizant of the people who will be seated at the table.  Centerpieces that are too tall can block the view of the people seated across from one another.  That makes conversation difficult, and drastically increases the chances that your centerpiece will wind up somewhere other than the center of the table.

Obey the Table Shape While you may love the center piece that you created for the ten-top round table, it probably isn’t going to look as impressive on the long, rectangular table intended to seat twenty people.  Coordinate your centerpieces, but do pay attention to the shapes of the tables and alter the pieces to make them fit.

Leave Space For Eating Remember that these tables are serving a purpose.  If your centerpiece and corresponding tableware is too cumbersome, it may make it difficult for people to eat and drink.  A table that is too crowded is overwhelming instead of inviting.

Think Seasonal Though you want to create a memorable look for your party, there is no sense in killing your budget on centerpieces that are likely going to be tossed or donated after the event is over.  Save money by buying fake flowers, or varieties that are in season.

Let Them Do Double Duty Don’t be afraid of letting your centerpiece serve more than one purpose.  If you have cards for guests to fill out, then incorporate pencils or pens into your centerpiece.  If there are kids in attendance, then consider including small toys into the look.  Or, if you don’t want to be left with a dozen centerpieces when the party is over, then consider making them edible (i.e. Lollipop bouquets or baskets of fruit).
